Teams are selected from young basketball players who compete in the Cairns Basketball junior competitions.  The players will attend trials from which teams of boys and girls are selected.  There are generally at least two teams of boys and two teams of girls, however, a third team may be added depending on the number of available players. Trials are held for each age group at different times

Under 18 – July
Under 16 – September
Under 14 – February
Under 12 - April

Participating in representative basketball requires players to commit to attending two training sessions per week and attending North Queensland regional tournaments, the Queensland North Junior Basketball Competition (NQJBC).  This involves a tournament in Mackay, Townsville and at home.

In addition, teams attend the State Championships which are held at associations throughout the State.

There are also costs involved in participating in representative basketball.  Costs vary depending on the cost to travel to the State Championship, but you should budget for approximately $3,000 per player to participate.
